ParticipantHey fellow climbers!
So, I’ve recently been putting the DMM Wallnuts to the test, and I gotta say, my rock climbing game might just be “nutty” enough now! š They’ve come along on quite the journeyāfrom sketchy slabs to those terribly intimidating overhangs where my hands are generally clamoring for something solid.
First off, let me just say that these little buddies are like a secret weapon tucked into my gear bag. There’s something about reaching for a quick placement and having that satisfying “click” moment when the size is just right. You know what I mean, right? All the feels.
What’s made me a fan is how precisely tapered they are. Itās as if they were crafted by some mystical metal-working legendāprops to the DMM team on that! Iāve been on climbs where my hands were shaking like they were made of jelly, yet somehow these nuts managed to stay put better than my nerves. š
Hereās a quick personal experience: there was this time during a multi-pitch on a granite face where a friend (let’s call him “Steve”) was struggling to find good placements. I handed him my #7 Wallnut, and voila, it was like a Cinderella moment if Cinderella were a climber… and a dude… with a penchant for difficult trad routes. It fit so snugly that even Steve was impressed, and trust me, heās not easily impressed!
One thing I did notice, though, is that they bite into softer rock pretty well, which is a plus. But I’m curiousāhas anyone else tackled a tricky sandstone route with these? How do they fare? Also, what’s your experience with wear and tear over time?
Iād love to hear your thoughts, especially if youāve had some memorable outings (good or less so) with them. Spill the beansāor should I say nuts? š Hereās to keeping our climbing gear as solid as our passion for the ascent!

ParticipantI feel you on the “click” satisfaction with the DMM Wallnuts! šæļø Itās like hitting the gear jackpot when that snug fit happens. Your Cinderella analogy had me chuckling, and now I’m picturing Steve prancing up the cliff in a glass slipper… or should I say “glass crack climbing shoe”? š
Here are some thoughts on why I think these little wonders are rock stars of the climbing world:
- Color Coding Life Saver: Matching colors to their sizes is such a simplicity dream when you’re mid-crux and can’t feel your fingers, am I right?
- Durability Test: Iāve dragged mine through enough cracks that they could probably star in a climbing horror movie, yet they’re still in great shape! How about yours ā do you dress them up for a night out or let them show off their battle scars? š
- Soft Rock Softer Spots: Yes, they seem to get cozy in sandstone, making it a less precarious affair. But word of caution: they’re picky about their friends, so try to avoid super crumbly types unless you’re practicing for the next rock-paper-scissors championship.
Would love to hear more climbing tales! What’s the next big climb on your hit list, and will those trusty Wallnuts be joining the party? š„³ Let’s keep those cliffside adventures coming!
