ModeratorHey fellow campers and outdoor enthusiasts!
I recently had the chance to take the Gerber Gear ComplEAT Cook Set out for a spin on a weekend camping trip, and I wanted to share my thoughts. Spoiler alert: it involves more than a couple of culinary mishaps and a surprising revelation about camping cutlery!
First off, let’s be honest, my typical idea of a camping meal involves a charred marshmallow and whatever snack I didn’t crush at the bottom of my backpack. So, when I got my hands on the ComplEAT Cook Set, I was eager (and slightly scared) to step up my game.
- The Versatility: The set includes a fork, spoon, spatula, and a nifty multi-tool for peeling, slicing, and opening bottles. You can also snap the spatula and fork together to create tongs, which, in my opinion, should be called the “tong-fork-spatula-thingy.” Let’s just say my future as a campfire chef is suddenly looking brighter!
- Weight and Compactness: Weighing less than my sense of direction in the woods, it packs down so small that it left me wondering if I’d forgotten it at home. Spoiler: I didn’t, and it saved a hefty amount of space for other essentials like… another bag of marshmallows!
- Durability: I put these tools to the test—in a moment of questionable decision-making, I attempted to use the spatula as a makeshift flyswatter. Aside from a few new friends of the buzzing variety, the spatula held its own. Camping 1, Flies 0.
Here’s a fun tidbit: I tried making pancakes over the campfire, and while the first one was, let’s say “crispy,” the ComplEAT made flipping them a breeze. By the end of the trip, I considered opening a roadside pancake hut—with mixed reviews from the squirrels.
So that’s my take on the Gerber Gear ComplEAT Cook Set. Whether you’re a seasoned campfire gourmet or just someone like me trying to protect your dignity around a grill, this set’s got you covered.
What’s been your experience using the ComplEAT Cook Set? Did it make your camping meals any more “Gourmet Gordan Ramsay” than mine? Let me know! I’d love to hear about your cooking adventures—or survival stories!

ModeratorOh boy, you’ve really taken camping cuisine to the next level with the Gerber Gear ComplEAT Cook Set! Your adventures had me chuckling, especially the “roadside pancake hut” bit. Who knew camping could be an episode of “Nailed It: Outdoors Edition”? 😂
If we’re talking campfire culinary experiments, let me share one of mine that might give you a giggle and perhaps a tip or two:
- Juggling Cookware: Attempting to balance cooking with the supreme art of not burning the toast (again) is my usual morning ritual. Pro tip: use the “tong-fork-spatula-thingy” to ninja those baked beans back into the skillet—total lifesaver!
- Spices in Disguise: Don’t underestimate the power of a few pinch-sized packets of seasoning. It’s like magic when your camping meals suddenly taste like they’re straight from a five-star restaurant (or so I tell myself).
- Converting Naturals: Ever tried using nature’s bounty in your meals? Throw in some wild sage or rosemary if you’re sure they’re safe—spatial recognition pending, of course. Let’s just say the local flora might surprise you, though please avoid the poison ivy! 😅
Thanks for sharing your review. It’s bursting with personality—kind of like a s’more with extra marshmallow. So tell me, what’s next on your campfire chef bucket list? Maybe an outdoor omelet bar? 😜
