Hey fellow trail seekers! I just had to share my latest gadget obsession: the Garmin Varia Radar Light. I mean, if it shines and helps keep me from becoming one with the ground sooner than anticipated, I’m all in. Let’s face it, I need all the help I can get when balancing less on two wheels and more on “Did that rock just MOVE?!”
So, I’ve been using this really nifty device for about a month now on my mountain biking adventures, and it’s been a game changer. First impressions: it’s super sleek and doesn’t look like I’ve strapped a spaceship to my bike. Honestly, there’s an appeal to not looking like I’m attempting to contact NASA during rides.
For the uninitiated: the Garmin Varia Radar Light isn’t just any bike light. It’s practically the bike whisperer of the tech world, pinging me about vehicles approaching from behind. Yes, you read that right. It’s like having a rearview mirror for your bike, but cooler and much less likely to break off if you hit that bush you swore was a trail.
- Visibility: The light on this thing is no joke. It’s as if a mini sun affixed itself to my tail, which I’m sure is appreciated by drivers who no longer have the excuse of “I didn’t see you there.”
- Battery Life: This little champ lasts for ages. I sometimes forget to charge it (am I the only one with this problem?) and it just keeps glowing.
- Alerts: The radar alerts are surprisingly accurate. Add that to my natural paranoia, and I’m now a zestier, safer rider.
And while it can’t brew my coffee or teach my dog to stop chewing on the handlebars, it’s definitely a keeper in terms of safety.
I’d love to hear your thoughts! Anyone else using this? Got tips, tricks, or do the random drivers who’ve seen my backside all lit up wave thanks? Share away!
