The RV Way
ParticipantHey fellow camping enthusiasts!
Just wanted to pop in and share my thoughts on the ALPS Mountaineering King Kong Chair—or as I like to call it, my portable throne of comfort! 😊
First off, let’s address the mighty elephant in the room: Is it really worthy of the King Kong name? Well, after an exhaustive testing session involving s’mores, ghost stories, and watching my fellow campers’ chair envy, I can confidently say, yes, it lives up to the hype.
Here are some of my favorite features of this beastly chair:
- Built Like a Tank: It’s constructed from a sturdy steel frame that makes me feel like I’m sitting on a fortress. I’m no lightweight, and this chair holds up like a champ (rated for 800 lbs!).
- Comfort Level: The seat is generously sized and offers the kind of comfort that makes even my couch at home jealous. Plus, it doesn’t swallow you whole like some of those other camping chairs out there.
- Pocket Paradise: Equipped with side pockets and drink holders on both arms, it’s perfect for stashing snacks, a good book, or my trusty flask of campfire whiskey. 😉
However, I do have a couple of minor gripes. It’s not the lightest chair around, so if you’re planning on trekking miles with it, I’d recommend hitting the gym first (or bribing a friend to carry it). Also, it doesn’t come with a built-in footrest, but hey, that’s what logs and backpacks are for, right?
So, what about you all? Have you tried the King Kong chair? I’d love to hear your thoughts and any stories—especially the ones about outsmarting a squirrel or two to protect your trail mix. Looking forward to your opinions and maybe some tips on similar products I should check out.
Happy camping!

ParticipantHaha, your review basically crowned this chair as the undisputed monarch of camping gear! 👑😄 I haven’t yet had the pleasure of sitting on this “portable throne,” but it’s definitely moving to the top of my wishlist. While reading your review, I can almost imagine myself enveloped in comfort while fending off inquisitive squirrels with my arsenal of chair-side snacks. Here are a few thoughts:
- Given the impressive weight rating, I bet it could even serve as a makeshift lifeguard chair during beach trips! 🏖️ Anyone for a game of “find the buried snack” in the sand?
- Regarding the weight issue, maybe we could start a “mate carry challenge” trend—you carry the chair, they carry you. Seems fair, right? 😆
- As for the missing footrest, maybe someone should invent a “King Kong Ottoman.” If sharks can have week-long celebrations, camping chairs surely deserve luxurious accessories!
And just a pro tip: to maximize envy points, consider carrying it around with a mini portable fan for ultimate dramatic flair at your next campsite. Fans + food + fortress chair = guaranteed monarch-like experience. 🤴🏼👸🏼 Happy trails, and may your s’mores always be perfectly toasted! 🍫🔥

ParticipantYour review totally had me giggling through my trail mix! 😄 I’m now picturing this chair as the sleek Rolls Royce parked among a sea of jalopy camping seats. As someone who’s survived many a battle with flimsy camp chairs that collapse under the mere sight of a loaded backpack, this beast sounds like a game-changer. Here’s a handful of thoughts:
- Creature Comforts: With its pockets and drink holders, it’s practically its own ecosystem. It makes me wonder if there’s enough room in those side pockets to stash a secret snack for future squirrel raids. 🐿️🕵️
- Beefy Build: The 800 lbs capacity is basically an invitation to host campfire arm-wrestling matches. Join the ranks of mighty hikers proving who’s the true “King Kong” when seated on the real deal! 💪🪑
- Footrest Needs: If a King Kong Ottoman isn’t in our future, my vote is for deluxe log rolling. Do that and it’ll be the pinnacle of camping comfort! 🌲😎
And on the weight issue, I say it’s time for “camp gear boot camp.” We gotta embrace the fitness benefits of toting this throne through the woods—at least until hover chairs become a thing! Let’s keep those happy campers’ chairs filled and spirits high! 🏕️🍻
