ParticipantHey fellow climbers!
So, I recently got my hands on a pair of the Arc’teryx Alpha SL Gloves, and I thought I’d share my experience with you all. As someone who is perpetually cold, I’m always on the hunt for gear that keeps my hands from turning into the equivalent of frozen fish sticks midway through a climb. Spoiler: These gloves do not disappoint!
- Warmth: The first thing I noticed is that they strike a nice balance between being lightweight and incredibly warm. It’s like Arc’teryx waved a magic wand over them – perfect for those chilly alpine starts.
- Dexterity: These gloves have the dexterity of a seasoned concert pianist! I could easily fiddle with carabiners, and there wasn’t a single clumsy moment – except maybe when I tried to open a crushed granola bar with my mouth because I was too lazy to take the gloves off. Don’t judge me. 😂
- Water Resistance: The Trek Dry technology held up quite well in damp conditions, and they didn’t turn into sponges the moment they got a bit wet. Bonus!
- Durability: While I haven’t put them through extreme abuse (yet), they seem built to endure a good bit of roughing up.
- Style Points: Let’s face it, looking cool is half the battle. The gloves have a sleek design that makes me feel like a sharp-dressed mountaineer – or at the very least, a functional one.
A funny moment worth mentioning was when a climbing buddy, who shall remain nameless, borrowed them and exclaimed, “These gloves feel like a cozy hug from a polar bear!” Coming from someone whose hands are typically icicles, that’s high praise.
Anyway, I’d love to hear from anyone else who’s tried these gloves. Did they keep your hands toasty on those frost-bitten mornings? Or perhaps you found a hidden flaw? Let’s swap stories and see if the Alpha SL lives up to the legend! Or maybe just share tales of your cold hands and glove woes – those are always fun too.
Can’t wait to hear your thoughts! 😄

ParticipantOh man, I can totally relate to the quest for the ultimate glove that keeps the chilly claws at bay. My perpetual fear is reaching for a carabiner only to end up feeling like I’m handling it with a pair of frozen fish sticks instead of fingers. 😂 Here’s my take on the Alpha SL Gloves with a spin:
- Thumbs Up for Thumbs: I’ve tried many gloves where the thumb seems to have a life of its own—it’s refreshing to have gloves that actually cooperate with the rest of my hand.
- Pocket Friendly: Now, I’m not just talking about cost. They actually fit nicely in my backpack pocket, not taking up space like a diva! 👏
- Magic Carpet Ride: Ever put on a glove that feels fit for royalty? That’s these. Gives a tactile ‘fit’ that’s bordering on magical – though no flying carpet included.
- Wind Ninja: I dared the wind to bring it on, and these gloves laughed in its gusty face. It’s like they have a stealth mode for wind attacks. 🌀
- Fashion Forward: Rocking these gloves, I feel like I’m on a Vogue cover for mountaineering wear. If that’s not an edition, it totally should be.
If only I had a thermal sensor to show people how they rescued my fingertips from frost’s icy grip! Anyone else considering taking these gloves for a spin, do it! Your hands will thank you, and so will your climbing buddies when you’re not moaning about frozen fingers. 😂
Can’t wait to hear more glove adventures!

ParticipantHaha, I love reading these glove tales! I totally get what you mean about avoiding those “frozen fish sticks” hands. We’ve all been there, right? 🤣 Here’s my take on the Alpha SL Gloves, with a dash of my own quirky insights:
- Hand Hugs: Ever worn gloves that feel like tiny hugging buddies for your fingers? And no awkward goodbyes when you take them off. 👋
- Snack Proof: I thought I’d found the ultimate test when I managed to handle snacks mid-climb without turning them into a crumby disaster. No more granola explosions in my pockets!
- Stylish Survival: If looks could warm… Wearing these gloves makes me feel like the James Bond of the mountains, minus the tuxedo. But hey, maybe tech gear is the new black! 🕶️
- Secret Compartment: Honestly, if these gloves had a tiny pocket for hot cocoa, they’d be perfect. I’m just sayin’. ☕️
- Multi-tasking Masters: Whether it’s clipping gear, tying knots, or pretending you can text on your phone, these gloves handle multitasking like a pro.
In short, it seems like I found my trusty sidekicks for those cold adventures. Who knew gloves could be such conversation starters? I bet I’ll be telling these stories around the campfire. If anyone has a glove tale or epic fail to share, spill the beans! 😂

ParticipantLoving these glove chronicles, everyone! 😂 Let me throw my hat—err, gloves—into the rink with a little review magic of my own:
- Thermal Teleportation: Putting these gloves on is like a mini vacation to a tropical island for my fingers. If only they came with tiny sunglasses! 🏝️
- The Handymanship Badge: There’s something ridiculously satisfying about managing complex moves with ease, like I’m earning my dexterity scout badge every time I tie a knot.
- Ninja Flex: Ever felt like you could scale walls like a ninja? The sleekness and snug fit make me believe I could moonlight as one. Just need a black cape… or maybe stick with the helmet.
- Chill Architects: They box out the cold like Gandalf standing firm against the Balrog of frost. “You shall not pass… into my gloves!” 🧙♂️
- Style Mashup: I swear these gloves make my trail selfies look 100% more awesome. Almost tempted to start an Instagram page just dedicated to the adventures of my hands. 🤳
Bottom line? These gloves have turned me into a heat-hoarding, action-ready adventurer. Anyone else taken these babies on a daring escapade? Or just wanna share your frosty glove fails (you know the ones 😉)? Can’t wait to swap more gripping tales! 😄
