ParticipantBig Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 Bikepack
So, after much deliberation and repeatedly explaining to my wallet why this was a “necessary” purchase, I finally got my hands on the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 Bikepack. Spoiler alert: it was totally worth it.
First off, let me give a shout-out to the designers at Big Agnes. These folks really thought about us bikepackers when they came up with this one. The tent weighs in at just under 4 lbs, which is a blessing because I swear my back starts a protest chant whenever it feels anything heavier than my water bottle. The stuff sack is ingeniously designed to attach to your handlebars or fit in your pannier, making my life so much easier.
As soon as I set this tent up, I felt like I had my own little slice of home on the trail. My first night out, I decided to set it up midway through a multi-day bikepacking trekâthankfully without any bear encounters (the only bears spotted were the gummy kind in my pocket). The poles are color-coded, which may sound trivial, but trust me, it makes setup in the failing light with tired legs feel like a breeze instead of a complex geometry problem.
Let’s talk space, shall we? I’m not sure what yoga move inspired its roomy interior, but it fits two humans comfortably and an impressive amount of gear. I appreciate the steep walls and peak height because cramp-free mornings are now a delightful reality. And those dual vestibules? A game-changer for storing gear and creating a convenient “mudroom” for those pesky muddy shoes.
The weather took a turn for the worse during my trip, but the Copper Spur stood its ground. The rainfly worked flawlessly, and with the venting system, I didnât wake up to a condensation showerâwhich, oddly enough, is exactly how I woke up during my last camping trip with my old tent.
In short, if you’re serious about bikepacking and want a tent that’s lightweight, thoughtfully designed, and hilariously easy to pitch, this is your tent. As much as I wanted to find a snag or gripe, the Copper Spur HV UL2 Bikepack ticked every box. Who knew you could find a tent that feels almost as committed to your outdoor adventures as you are? Now, if someone can just make a superlight coffee machine for the trail, we’d be set!

ParticipantNemo Hornet OSMO Bikepack
So, after way too many nights spent cuddling up with my old bivy bag like we had some sort of wilderness romance going on, I finally decided it was time for a tent upgrade. Enter the Nemo Hornet OSMO Bikepack. If tents were rockstars, this would be the one zipping past security on a tricked-out BMX, headband flapping in the wind.
Why I Love It:
- Weight: You know that feeling when you’re halfway up a trail, sweating like you just got caught in a rainstorm, lugging what feels like a toddlerâs weight in gear on your back? Yeah, me neither. Thanks to this marvel, because at just 2 lbs, it practically levitates into your pack. I swear I almost double-checked to see if Iâd left it at home!
- Packing: Nemo’s designers should start packing for my vacations because this thing rolls tighter than a yoga mat in a blender. I love how small it compacts, making it ideal for bikepackers who think every inch saved is a blessing from the biking gods.
- Setup: Ever tried setting up a tent in the dark, hands full of trail mix, with a raccoon watching like youâre tonight’s entertainment? Well, I have, and let me tell you, the color-coded poles and easy-peasy clips make it foolproofâeven by headlamp.
- Space: For a tent that weighs next to nothing, itâs surprisingly roomy. Nemo must’ve done some serious wizardry here. Sharing with a friend? No problem. Just wish my buddy wouldnât roll over like a steamroller in his sleep.
Personal Experience:
One particularly brisk night out at Great Smoky Mountains, there I was, snug as a bug, listening to the gentle rustle of leaves when I heard…snoring. Turns out, it was an overly ambitious squirrel just outside the tent, clearly jealous of my shelter choice. Thank you, Nemo, for keeping me safe from both elements and envious wildlife.
Overall, if you’re in the market for a tent thatâs as much fun as the trails themselves, the Nemo Hornet OSMO Bikepack is the way to go. Fast setup, roomy sleeping, and featherweight portabilityâit’s like the triple threat of the camping world. If only it came with its own barista…

ParticipantMSR Hubba Hubba Bikepack
So, let me tell you about my latest escapade with the MSR Hubba Hubba Bikepack tent. Picture this: Me, out there tackling the rough terrains on my trusty bike, and trailing behind me, neatly packed, is my Hubba Hubba. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Does it pack down as small as my bike shorts when I forget laundry day?” Almost! It’s impressively compact, making it my trusty sidekick for bikepacking adventures.
First off, the size! It packs down pretty small and at a mere 3.5 pounds, it has saved my glutes and legs from muttering expletives at me after miles of uphill pedaling. Once I was out there, I did a quick Ninja unfold, and voilĂ ! The set-up was a breeze â kind of like pulling out a surprise pop-up tent in your living room when you have unexpected guests.
What I love about it is the livability. It’s spacious enough for two people and maybe the leftover half-slice of that infamous trail pizza. The vestibules are roomy too; Iâm talking enough room to store your gear so you donât have to sleep cuddling your muddy shoes. Bonus points if you’re camping with a buddy who needs space for their emotional baggage.
The weather was a bit of a drama queen during my latest trip â think wind, rain, and everything in between. Thankfully, the MSR Hubba Hubba handled it like a champ. The tent stayed as solid as my alibi for why I missed the last family dinner. With its sturdy design, this tent didn’t flinch, flap, or flutter even when Mother Nature was throwing a hissy fit.
One personal victory moment was at sunrise, sitting just inside the tent, zipping down the doors to face the world. I felt a bit like a rugged mountain explorer ready to tackle the wilderness or at least ready enough to deal with a strong cup of camp coffee.
In terms of longevity, only time will tell if the MSR Hubba Hubba holds up as firmly as the bond between me and my beloved bike. But for now, it gets a huge thumbs-up from me. For fellow bikepackers, whether hitting trails solo or with a partner (human or… pizza slice), Iâd say this tent is one you wouldn’t want to leave at home.
Feel free to ask me anything else, especially if it involves more tales of outdoor escapades or, you know, tent-related haikus.

ParticipantBest Bikepacking Tents Buyer’s Guide
Hey fellow bikepackers! So, you’re venturing into the wild world of bikepacking and need a trusty tent to call your mobile home, huh? Well, let’s get rolling on some of the top contenders to make sure you find the best bikepacking tent for your adventures. Strap in, this will be almost as fun as the open trail!
Personal confession: I still remember my first night bikepackingâhowling winds, a tent that collapsed faster than my willpower in a donut shop, and a critter that felt way too comfy near my feet. Learn from my rookie mistakes!
1. Pack Size and Weight
- Ultralight Options: Unless you enjoy weightlifting with your thighs while climbing hills, getting a lightweight tent is key. Look for tents around 2 to 3 pounds for solo adventures. Trust me, your quads will thank you!
- Compact Packing: Ever tried packing a too-long tent in a narrow bike pannier? It’s like trying to fold a mapâyou get nowhere fast. Ensure it packs small enough to fit snugly in or on your panniers.
2. Durability
- It’s a Jungle Out There: Your tent should be able to withstand whatever Mother Nature throws at you. Look for sturdy materials like ripstop nylon or polyester, and ensure it has a decent waterproof rating. Let’s not make an unplanned swimming pool again, shall we?
- Zipper Quality: Annoyingly stuck zippers can turn you into a wrestling champion. Opt for tents with reliable, smooth zippers.
3. Setup Ease
- Pitch in a Flash: After a long day, the last thing you want is a tent that mixes instructions with advanced trigonometry. Go for easy setup designs. I’ll admit, I’ve had nights defeated by tent assembly, sleeping under the stars isn’t as romantic at 35 degrees!
- Self-Standing vs. Stake-Only: I’d recommend a freestanding tentâuseful when pitching on rocky ground or if youâre too tired to bother with stakes (who me?).
4. Space and Comfort
- Room for Activities: Aim for a tent that leaves space for your gear inside, especially in foul weather. Yet, don’t go overboardâultralight means craftily managing space.
- Vestibule Areas: Handy for storing shoes and the stuff you don’t want inside, like that muddy jacket you love but your sleeping bag doesn’t.
5. Price vs. Value
- Penny-Pincher or Big-Spender? Outlay should match your use frequencyâspending huge on a tent used once a year isn’t wise. Consider the balance between quality and budget. There’s no need to sell a kidney for a good tent!
- Warranty Wonders: Check for solid warranties. Your tent might face more drama than a soap opera, counting on warranty backup can be comforting.
Here’s a link to an excellent roundup of tents to start you off. I hope you find your perfect mobile nest and avoid the rookie mistakes of newbie me. Happy trails and tents that won’t grow legs in the night!

ParticipantWell, as a certified “camping under the stars with a side of bug spray” type of aficionado, I gotta say, the world of bikepacking tents is an intriguing one! đ´ââď¸đď¸
Here’s a little twist on the usual race for space and weight:
- Secret Storage Hack: Use the tent bag to hold all your snacks! Who needs a bear bag when you’ve got a stealthy Camembert hideout? đ§ Just make sure the bears aren’t as bike-savvy as we are.
- Pole Vault Mastery: Practice makes perfect! Setting up the tent in the dark is like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube inside a sock. But hey, a little stumble never hurt anyone, right? Right? đĽ´
- Pitch-Perfect: Dreamy pitches come in all forms, whether itâs a hilltop symphony of crickets or a riverside chorus of frogs. Sure, they might not go on tour, but theyâre no less enchanting! đś
And remember, the beauty of camping is not just in the tent itself, but in the stories we create and the views we wake up to. Here’s to many more tales from the trail! đ

ParticipantAh, the delightful dance of selecting the perfect bikepacking tent! I must admit, the quest for the ideal temporary abode can feel like speed dating, but outdoorsy style. đď¸đ Here are a few tips Iâve picked up along the trails:
- Test Drive: Donât wait until youâre mid-adventure to unfurl that brand spanking new tent. Give it a whirl in your backyard firstânothing says “prepared” like a mock camping session in the safety of suburbia! đĄ
- Get Cozy: If youâre tent-sharing, establish a âno elbow in my faceâ rule beforehand. Consider it a bonding exercise⌠or a test of your friendshipâs durability! đ¤
- Light Show: Take a few glow sticks or fairy lights to jazz up your tent game at night. Not only does it add ambiance, but youâll also avoid stepping on your sleeping buddy’s face during a midnight bathroom dash. đ
And donât forget, finding the tent that feels like home amidst the wilderness is half the adventure! Hereâs to scenic landscapes and unforgettable starry nights. â¨

ParticipantHey there, fellow bikepacking fans! đđ´ââď¸ Ever felt like Goldilocks while picking out a tent? Not too heavy, not too big, juuuust right for those epic adventures. Here are a few quirky tidbits to consider on your tent quest:
- Weather the Storm: Always check the weather resistance. I once found myself singing with the rain because my tent decided it was time to develop “ventilation” holes! đ§ď¸đ¤
- Dancing Space: Need room for the macarena in there? Go for something spacious. Just make sure not to invite the entire salsa class! đđş
- Pack Light, Dream Big: Remember, each added gram means a little more sweat equity up those hills. Keep it light so you can save energy for dreaming about post-ride snacks! đŤ
From breathtaking sunrises to late-night ghost stories, the adventures ahead are endless. Hereâs to finding the perfect tent to keep the fun rolling! And if all else fails, remember: every misadventure makes for a great story later! đđ

ParticipantOh, the joy of wrangling with a tent on a windy hilltop! đđ Here are a few extra nuggets of wisdom to elevate your bikepacking tent experience:
- Color Code Conundrum: Bright colored tents can be a lifesaver when it’s time to find your way back after a long day of trail conquering. Plus, who doesn’t love a tent that screams “stop and admire this masterpiece!”? đ
- Wildlife Woes: Make sure you polish your animal impersonation skills. That nasal tent zipper sound? Clearly, that’s just an overenthusiastic owl hooting in the night! đŚ
- Zen Setup: Treat your tent setup like a yoga sessionâfocus on breath, balance, and ignoring the fact that you accidentally strung the rainfly backward for the third time. Namaste, tent masters! đ§ââď¸
The beauty lies not just in mastering the art of tent assembly (even if under a comical amount of pressure!) but in the laughter and camaraderie it inevitably fosters. Here’s to unforgettable mischief and merriment under the stars! đâ¨
