ParticipantBlack Diamond Solution
So, I finally decided to try out the much-talked-about Black Diamond Solution harness the other day. Let me just say, it was like slipping into a bespoke suit made by Armani… if Armani designed climbing gear! This thing fits like a dream.
Comfort: Oh man, it’s as if the folks over at Black Diamond channelled some sort of cushy cloud technology because the comfort level is off the charts. It’s like the harness gives you a hug every time you slip into it. The leg loops are snug without cutting off circulation, which is a revelation for someone who often noodles around, debating what size my thighs are going to be that day.
Performance: Now, I’m not going to say wearing the Solution suddenly made me a superhuman who crushes 5.13 grades without breaking a sweat, but I did notice my confidence levels went up. Maybe it’s the perfect fit, or the way it distributes weight evenly, but I definitely felt more stable and secure while spreading my “spidery embrace” on the rock face.
- Durability: Iâm no hardcore gear abuser, but after a few intense sessions, this harness seems to be holding up like a champ. Let’s be real, it’s built tougher than that hiking partner who insists on wearing shorts in sub-zero temps.
- Features: The gear loops are well-positioned and durable, adding to a seamless climbing experience. It’s like Black Diamond anticipated my gear fumbling and personally came to my rescue. I’m also a sucker for a good color scheme, and the sleek design makes me feel I belong on the cover of a climbing magazine (even if I’m just hangdogging on my project).
Overall: If you’re considering trying the Black Diamond Solution, I’d say, go for it. Your hips might thank you, and who knows? Even the mountain goats might nod in approval as you gallantly prance up the crags. And if you’re still on the fence, here’s a whimsical ideaâI imagine if the Solution had a nickname, it would be “The Leg-Hugging Ninja” for its ability to stealthily enhance your climbing without making its presence known. You can check it out here.
So, anyone else out there rocking the Solution? Or have I just been deluding myself under the harness’ comforting embrace?

ParticipantPetzl Sama
If thereâs one thing we climbers are particularly picky about, itâs our harnesses. Enter the Petzl Samaâa harness I initially approached with skepticism. However, after putting it through its paces on several climbing adventures, I find myself oddly infatuated. Let me tell you why.
First off, comfort is everything, right folks? The Sama has this EndoFrame construction that spreads out pressure evenly. I spend a lot of time sitting mid-route pondering the meaning of life (translation: figuring out how not to fall), so itâs a game-changer for my circulation and sanity.
Oh, and those leg loops? Adjustable but not too fussy. Iâm no fashionista on the crag, but I do appreciate how the leg loops accommodate my odd choice of pants, from bulky winter leggings to “I forgot my real climbing pants” shorts.
Now, I know what youâre thinking: gear loops. We all love to accessorize with enough climbing gear to make us look like a well-decorated Christmas tree. The Sama doesnât disappointâfour good-sized loops hold everything from quickdraws to those carabiners you swear youâll need.
On the funny side, the Sama turned my casual swing test into an unexpected circus trick (donât ask how; letâs leave it at âuser errorâ). Thanks to the harness, I emerged from that episode with dignity mostly intact. The durability’s no joke; it survived the incident and many subsequent “oops” moments.
Durability aside, the colors are vibrant enough to make you easily spotted on cliff faces, ideal for that Instagram moment or when your friends lose track of you because you somehow ended up on the wrong routeâagain.
All in all, would I recommend the Petzl Sama to my fellow rock-scramblers? Absolutely. Itâs a sturdy partner thatâs made my climbing escapades a bit more epic without any added dramaâexcept when I provide it myself.
Climb on and keep those belay glasses handyâyou’re gonna be craning your neck in admiration if you snag this harness!

ParticipantArc’teryx AR-395a
Alright, folks! Gather ’round the digital campfire, because I’ve got a tale to tell about my recent hitchhike through the wild world of climbing gear, featuring none other than the Arc’teryx AR-395a harness.
Let me preface this by saying that, yes, I’m a sucker for anything with a dinosaur logo. But I promise there’s more to the AR-395a than just its stylish tag!
First impressions? When I first slipped on the AR-395a, it felt like hugging a cloud… if clouds had a penchant for supporting your safety on the side of a granite cliff. It’s all about that Warp Strength Technology, baby! It spreads your weight evenly and comfortably. Somebody at Arc’teryx really thought this through!
- Fit & Comfort: I’m happy to report that there were zero incidents of me awkwardly adjusting this harness mid-route. The adjustable leg loops were a dream for those variable layering days. Whether I’m rocking shorts or ice-climbing pants, this harness felt custom-fit.
- Durability: I’ve subjected the AR-395a to some serious scrapes and squishes, and it’s still holding up like a champ. From trad climbs to sport, it took the beating and isn’t any worse for wear. Spoiler alert: my legs, on the other hand, have seen better days!
- Gear Loops: It comes with four sturdy gear loops and they hold more than I’ve ever dared bring along â because letâs face it, if I can shove a coffee thermos onto one of them, it’s a win.
Now, here’s a little personal story: On my most recent climb, right as I was conquering my arch-nemesis route, I managed to impress everyone with a grand swing and (surprise!) I lived to tell the tale. While my fellow climbers were laughing at my less-than-graceful plunge, I stayed calm, knowing that the trusty Arc’teryx AR-395a harness had me tethered securely. Let’s just say, if you can’t be graceful, at least be safe, right?
So, if you’re on the fence about the AR-395a, I’d give it a firm, gear-loop-laden thumbs up. It’s comfortable, tough as nails, and has that sleek dino style. Plus, if you happen to swing like Tarzan every now and then, you’ll definitely feel grateful for its secure embrace. Happy climbing! đ

ParticipantBest Climbing Harnesses Buyer’s Guide
So, you’re on the prowl for the best climbing harness, huh? No pressure. It’s only the piece of gear that keeps you from making a hasty and, shall we say, unplanned descent from your favorite crag. But fear not! As someone who’s logged more “hang time” than I care to admit, I’m here to guide you through this harness-hunting journey.
First off, understand what you’re climbing. It’s like picking shoes. You wouldn’t wear flip-flops to a hike, right? Whether you’re ice climbing, sport climbing, or mountaineering, different harnesses cater to different needs.
- Comfort: Let me put it this wayâcomfort is king. You don’t want to feel like you’re wearing a cheese grater after a long climb. Look for harnesses with padded waist belts and leg loops. Trust me; your hips will thank you!
- Fit: I once had a harness that was either way too loose or made me feel like I was starring in a scene from a sausage-making documentary. Avoid that nightmare by trying on different sizes and adjusting them just right. If Goldilocks can find the perfect porridge, so can you!
- Weight: Light harnesses are great for sport climbing when you need to keep the weight down. But if youâre venturing into alpine territory, a bit more paddingâand consequently, weightâcould be a plus.
- Gear loops: These are your utility belt. Do you need them to carry more gear on multipitch climbs? Or are you a sport climber who likes things streamlined? Choose wisely, young grasshopper.
- Closure system: It’s like choosing between ketchup and mustardâpersonal preference reigns supreme. From the classic, trusty buckles to the newer, fancier speed buckles, consider what feels secure and easy for you.
Personal favorites? I’m partial to the Petzl Selena for gym and sport climbingâlight, comfy, and it comes in delightful colors that even the mountain goats admire! But for multi-pitch trad climbs, the Black Diamond Big Gun is like the studded leather jacket of harnessesâsturdy and ready for anything.
Hang out at your local climbing shop and test drive a few. And no, hanging in a harness at the store won’t make you look silly. In fact, it’s a pro move that vets will nod in appreciation of. Plus, you’ll know for sure if a harness will cradle your precious posterity as you dangle from high places.
Cheers to safe climbs and graceful sends!

ParticipantHey there, rock warriors! đ§ââď¸ So, funny storyâI spent more time hanging in my harness than actually climbing on my last trip. Turns out, I was accidentally testing it for a hammock-feature upgrade đ¤Śââď¸. Guess itâs time to admit my gear has become an unwitting piece of performance art!
If youâre looking to avoid such accidental hammock moments or just want a harness that makes you feel like the superhero you are, here are some random but helpful nuggets of wisdom:
- Adjustability is Key: Try to find a harness that lets you tweak waist belt and leg loops easily. One size definitely doesn’t fit all when the “all” includes different-sized mountain muscles and post-climb pizza bellies. đ
- Superb Comfort: If you’re like me and love naps mid-climb (who doesn’t?), you’ll appreciate padding that feels like a gentle bear hug.
- Gear Loops Galore: More loops = more places to stash all the gadgets and snacks. Stay stylish while you channel your inner gear nerd! âď¸
- The Bling Factor: Some harnesses make you look cooler than you are. Choose wisely, for with great power comes great photo opportunities. đ¸
Remember, finding the right harness isnât just about safetyâitâs about enhancing your climbing swagger too. Happy scaling, and may your chalk bag always be full! đ¤đ¤

ParticipantHey adventure enthusiasts! đ So, quick confession: I once had a moment on a climb where I felt like I was starring in an epic movie scene… until I realized I was just stuck trying to untangle myself from my own gear. đ Lesson learned: the right gear not only makes you look like a pro but also keeps you out of those, um, “cinematic” situations.
Here are a few quirky tips to find your harness soulmate:
- Slide Test: Make sure your harness doesnât transform into a slide ride when you least expect it. It should fit snug, like that perfect pair of jeans you never want to take offâminus the judgment from jealous climbers.
- Color Coordination: Okay, maybe not highly functional, but if your harness matches your climbing shoes, you instantly become 10% more photogenic. Itâs science. đśď¸
- Sound of Silence: Find a harness that doesn’t jingle like Santa’s sleigh. Quiet gear equals stealthy climbingâperfect for those surprise staring contests with mountain goats. đ
- Bonus Pockets: Never underestimate the power of hidden pockets for storing secret snacks. You never know when youâll need a quick nibble mid-ascent to fuel your epic climbing montage.
With the right harness, youâll not only elevate your climbing game but possibly inspire a new fashion trend in mountain chic. Happy climbing, and hereâs to fewer tangled moments! đâ°ď¸

ParticipantHey fellow vertical adventurers! đ I’ve got a tale from the crag – I once got so enthusiastic about tackling an overhanging route that I ended up hanging upside down like a bat đŚ. Spoiler: the harness passed the ‘inverted spelunking’ test with flying colors, but my dignity was a bit crumpled.
To save you from similar fate or gravity-defying adventures, here are some lightweight tips for navigating harness shopping like a seasoned pro:
- Locker Charms: Make sure your harness accommodates all those locking carabiners you love so much. No one likes cramming more keys onto a keychain than space allows!
- Check for Chafe: Look out for those secretive spots where friction meets skin. You don’t want to end your route looking like youâve auditioned for a sandpaper commercial.
- Flexibility Points: Opt for a harness that moves with you, not against you. Bonus if it feels like you’re wearing a stretchy pair of favorite yoga pants. đ§ââď¸
- Glam Rock: If youâre aiming for rock star status, pick a harness that screams *style* without giving up on safety. Because who says you canât have form and function?
So there you have it! Letâs win this battle between gravity, gear, and goofballery. To the crag and beyond! đđ§ââď¸
