Hey fellow climbers and summit seekers!

So, I’ve been spending some quality time recently with the Black Diamond Momentum harness, and I thought it was time to give you all my two cents—or should I say, two carabiners—on how it measures up. Spoiler alert: It involves a lot of enthusiastic thumbs up!

Imagine this: You’re halfway up a route, you’ve broken into a solid sweat, and the only thing between you and a one-sided introduction to gravity is your gear. Do you want that gear to whisper sweet “you’ve got this” encouragements into your harness loops? Heck, yeah, you do.

Here’s what I’ve experienced using the Black Diamond Momentum:

• Comfort: It’s like wearing a pillow with an adjustable waistband. The Dual Core Construction™ really does make a difference. I wasn’t itching to wiggle out of it after an afternoon of climbing (or during, when my partner took a little longer than usual to figure out the crux).
• Adjustability: The trakFIT leg loops are magical, especially for someone like me who struggles with fluctuating between “is it leg day?” and “maybe tomorrow.” They’re easy to slide to the right fit, even mid-climb when layers are in question.
• Utility: Gear loops are sturdy and well-placed. I found clipping and unclipping quickdraws easier than ever. Although, I did face a moment of crisis when I dropped a cam—I blamed that on my butterfingers rather than the harness!
• Aesthetics: Let’s not pretend this doesn’t matter! The harness has a sleek, minimalist design. It’s the little black dress of the climbing world but, you know, with more functions and fewer dinner parties.
• Durability: So far, it’s taken a few scrapes and still looks remarkably spiffy. It seems like it can weather many climbing seasons with ease, which is good because I’d rather not have to explain another “essential gear” purchase to the significant other this year.
