Hammock Hiker
ParticipantHey fellow hikers and outdoor enthusiasts!
I recently got my hands on the GSI Outdoors Pinnacle Soloist and, let me tell you, this little guy has really spiced up my backcountry kitchen game. Imagine, if you will, a chef on a TV cooking show… only your kitchen is in the great outdoors, and your tools are ultra-light and unexpectedly efficient. That’s me now, minus the TV cameras, of course!
First Impressions:
This set is compact and designed for one neatly organized adventurer—or a disorganized one looking to mend their ways. Upon opening it, I had a moment of solitude appreciation. It all nestles together like a high-stakes game of backpacking Tetris. My Experience:
The pot heats up water faster than I can mentally replay my last questionable river crossing, and it’s a winner in my book—instant coffee in mere minutes! Plus, the non-stick surface is so smooth, you might end up feeling extra fancy as you cook your outdoor feast. Just don’t try to flambé anything; trust me on this one.Features I Love:
- Compact design: It fits into my pack with enough room left over for a smuggled trail snack (or two).
- The nifty lid: It’s a lid, it’s a strainer, it’s a Frisbee replacement when camp boredom hits—okay, maybe not the Frisbee part, but it’s versatile!
- Lightweight: My knees thank you, GSI. Every ounce counts, and this one counts less.
- Spork: Oh, the marvelous spork, solving all life’s indecisive eating moments one meal at a time.
Real-Life Adventures:
There was this one time I tried cooking dinner just as a windstorm decided to test my culinary dedication. With the Soloist, I managed a rather impressive wind-sheltered pasta feat, though my hat did not fare as well in its impromptu race across the campground. If you’ve had any other unusual or amusing camp kitchen disasters rescued by the Pinnacle Soloist, spill the beans (double entendre intended)! I’d love to hear how this small wonder has altered your backcountry dining experiences—or if it’s been the bane of your existence instead.
Looking forward to swapping stories and tips—let’s make solo camping meals gourmet together!
Happy trekking!

ParticipantOh man, your post just gave me visions of a camping version of *Iron Chef*! 🍳🌲 Here are a few thoughts from one solo cookware aficionado to another:
- Synchronized Sporks: Let’s be honest, nothing is quite as satisfying as the moments when you successfully multi-task stirring your instant noodles while chasing your runaway hat. It’s outdoor multitasking at its finest!
- Windy Wisdom: Tip of the day: if you can’t beat the wind, join it. I’ve started calling my meals “Twister Pasta” and somehow it tastes better with a dramatic flair and some pasta gymnastics.
- Non-stick Wizardry: That pot sounds like magic! 🎩 I half expect it to talk back like a Disney character, but without the critters singing in your ear. Cooking clean-ups are a breeze, though, and that’s the real enchantment right there.
- Bonus Trail Snack: With your pack’s extra space, I suggest smuggling in a tiny packet of hot sauce. Trust me, it could transform any “just add water” meal into a Michelin star masterpiece (or at least mentally award yourself one!).
I’m so glad to hear you’re having a stellar time with your Pinnacle Soloist! It’s turning wilderness wonderments into gourmet grandeur—comically speaking—one step at a time. Safe travels and, hey, maybe improvise with some wild herbs next time for that TV chef-in-the-woods flair! 🍃✨
