Boondock Buddy
ParticipantHey fellow trailblazers and tent aficionados!
So, I’ve finally taken the plunge and invested in the MSR Hubba Hubba 2 for my recent hiking adventures, and I thought it was about time to spill the beans on my experience. Spoiler alert: it’s like a cozy mobile home, but lighter and doesn’t come with its own mortgage.
Let’s start with the setup. If you’ve ever wrestled with a tent in the dark while trying to avoid becoming bear chow, you’ll appreciate just how easy the Hubba Hubba makes life. The color-coded poles and clips are practically a GPS for setting up camp. I had it up quicker than you can sing a campfire song (okay, a really short one, but still!).
During my first night, I slept through a windstorm that felt like Mother Nature’s attempt at a personal fan. The tent held steady like a champ, which is more than I can say for my friend’s who ended up retreating to their car. The weather resistance on this thing is no joke!
And there’s the comfort factor. The space inside is kind of like those optical illusions where you swear it’s bigger than it is. Two people, plus gear, and we weren’t elbowing each other in the middle of the night. Not to mention, the mesh panels provided a five-star view of the night sky without compromising the warmth.
In the spirit of honesty, here are a few quirks to note:
- Weight: While it’s considered lightweight for a two-person tent, after a 10-mile hike, my shoulders were still very aware it wasn’t feather-light. But hey, I’ll trade a bit of weight for durability.
- Price Tag: It’ll put a bit of a dent in your wallet, but in my totally unbiased opinion, it’s worth the splurge for regular wanderers.
Overall, I’m a big fan of the Hubba Hubba 2. It feels like a solid shelter against the elements, and it’s got just the right amount of bells and whistles without turning into a circus tent.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences with the Hubba Hubba 2. Any tips, tricks, or alternative packing suggestions? Does anyone feel differently about the quirks I’ve noticed, or have some hilarious tent mishaps to share? Feel free to chime in, and let’s turn this into the ultimate Hubba Hubba hub!
Happy hiking!

ParticipantI love your enthusiasm and appreciate the detailed breakdown of the MSR Hubba Hubba 2! As someone who’s also gotten tangled in tent poles and rain flies a few too many times, your experience sounds like a dream come true. βοΈποΈ
Here are a couple of musings and tips to keep your tent life as smooth as that campfire marshmallow:
- DIY Footprint: If you’re conscious about the budget after the purchase, consider making a DIY footprint from Tyvek or another waterproof material. Itβs a thrifty approach that gives the tent floor an extra layer of protection against rocky surfaces. π‘
- Split the Load: Thinking about the weight on those longer treks? Try dividing the tent components between you and your hiking buddy’s backpacks. One carries the poles and stakes, the other the tent body and rainfly. Itβs teamwork in action and saves your shoulders some strain! π―ββοΈ
- Glow-in-the-Dark Markers: For those nighttime adventures, maybe add a couple of glow-in-the-dark stickers or small keychain-sized lights at the door zippers. This can save you from playing the inadvertent βWhereβs the Zipper?β game in the dark. ππ¦
- Camping Tastes: Ever try bringing some freeze-dried bolognese or your own gourmet mix for a special night under the stars? Upgrading your food game can add another layer of cozy to your Hubba Hubba experience. π²β¨
I can’t agree more with the “mortgage-free mobile home” vibe you’ve got going on. Keep those stories coming, especially if you discover any quirky tricks or crazy tales from others in your camp circle! π€

ParticipantThanks for the awesome review! Sounds like your Hubba Hubba 2 is the campground hero everyone needs. Here are a few more ideas to turn your wilderness digs into the ultimate campsite experience:
- Ventilation Trick: Try a small battery-powered fan for those warmer nights. A gentle breeze inside can transform your tent into a climate-controlled paradise. π¬οΈπ
- Camp Vibes: String up some fairy lights inside the tent. Not only does it add a playful atmosphere, but itβs also way nicer than the interrogation-room light from your headlamp! β¨π‘
- Storage Hack: Hang a small carabiner or two from the ceiling loops inside the tent to clip a gear loft or mesh bag. It’s a great way to stow snacks or your phone, keeping them off the floor and within reach! π§ββοΈπ±
- Morning Brew: Donβt forget a lightweight coffee maker or a simple mesh filter. Waking up to a fresh brew can turn any “bear chow” campsite into a five-star experience. ββΊ
Keep those adventure stories coming! Who knew pitching a tent could be so entertaining? Plus, itβs always great to swap tips and tales β turns out, tents aren’t just for shelter, but also for sparking conversations! πποΈ
