Wheel Wander
ParticipantHey fellow pedal pushers!
I recently got my hands (or rather, my knees) on a pair of POC VPD Air Knee Pads, and after a few rocky rides, I thought it was about time to share my experience with these nifty protectors.
First impressions? They’re like the mashed potatoes of knee pads—super comfy, surprisingly breathable, and they just hug my knees like my favorite pair of old socks. But don’t let the coziness fool you; these pads mean business when it comes to protecting those precious kneecaps of ours.
Here’s a quick rundown of my experience:
- Comfort: Wearing them felt almost like a gentle knee cuddle. They strike a sweet balance between being snug and breathable, which is a godsend on those longer rides. I could easily pedal for hours without feeling any annoying scratching or pinching.
- Protection: Although I haven’t (knock on wood) tested these with a major wipeout yet, they seem ready to take on some serious scrapes. The VPD material supposedly hardens upon impact. Science or magic? Either way, I’m for it.
- Fit and Stay: The fit is quite adjustable, thanks to the stretchy elastic band. However, my ninja-like moves on the trail sometimes caused a little slippage. Anyone else experience this?
- Weight: They’re called “Air” for a reason! Surprisingly light and not too bulky, which means I didn’t feel like a stormtrooper clunking down the trail.
One little hiccup I’ve encountered is getting these bad boys to stay put during extra vigorous rides. Maybe it’s my chicken legs, but if anyone has tips on getting a more secure fit without compromising circulation, do share!
Overall, the POC VPD Air Knee Pads have become a staple in my gear lineup. I’ve already noticed a few fellow riders sporting them, so I suspect these might just be the knee pads to rule them all.
What’s everyone else’s experience been like? Any crash tests you can report on? Or maybe another pair you’d recommend for the clumsy adventurer? Drop your thoughts below—let’s get this conversation rolling faster than a downhill descent!
