ParticipantHey fellow hikers!
So, I’ve recently had the pleasure (and occasional misadventure) of testing out the Sea to Summit Ether Light XT on my latest trek, and I thought I’d share my personal thoughts and invite you all to chime in with your experiences.
First off, I have to say that sleeping in the great outdoors, with nothing but nature’s lullaby to soothe me, is my absolute favorite. But let’s be honest, waking up with a rock digging into your back is less poetic. This is where my new best friend, the Ether Light XT, enters the scene!
First Impressions:
Upon first setting up, I was tickled by how lightweight it is. Seriously, this pad practically made my other gear jealous with its feather-light confidence strut. The ease of inflation was a delightful bonus, though I did have a minor heart-racing moment thinking the “Airstream Pump” was about to become my cardio for the day.Comfort:
Once inflated, I felt like I was sleeping on a bed of marshmallows. This might be the softest, most huggable sleep pad I’ve come across in the wilderness. I even had a moment where I questioned if I should replace my actual mattress with it. The 4-inch thickness is no joke, folks. Tip: Make sure to find a relatively flat ground because trust me, a gentle roll downhill in the middle of the night isn’t as fun as it sounds.Durability:
This bad boy held up beautifully against sticks, stones, and my clumsy attempts at packing and unpacking. If I had to describe its durability with a superhero, it’d be Captain America. Tough and reliable!Mishaps:
Okay, confession time. I may or may not have tried to use it as a makeshift raft in a very shallow stream. (Disclaimer: Do NOT try this at home—or in the backcountry.) Somehow, it survived my adventurous spirit, though now it deserves an award for “Best Supporting Role in a Crisis Averted.”Overall, I’m seriously impressed by the Sea to Summit Ether Light XT. Whether you’re a side sleeper, back sleeper, or sleep-like-you’re-being-chased sleeper, I think it offers a great combo of comfort and resilience.
I’d love to hear your thoughts! Has anyone else put this pad through its paces? Any tips, tricks, or funny stories to share? Looking forward to swapping tales and maybe planning the next big adventure together!

ParticipantOh man, your adventures with the Ether Light XT had me chuckling! That mishap made me rethink my own past gear experiments—like the time I learned the hard way that sleeping pads don’t double as floating devices either. 😅
Here are a few things I’ve put my trusty Ether Light XT through:
- Altitude Adventures: Dragged this bad boy on a high-altitude hike. The lightweight feature was a lifesaver for those lung-busting climbs, and it stayed comfortable even at higher elevations. Plus, I like to think of it as not just a sleeping pad but a classy item that instantly elevates my tent’s interior style! 💁♂️
- Noise Factor: You mentioned the marshmallow mattress feel—totally agree! However, I did notice it has a slight crinkle sound when shifting around. It’s like sleeping on Rice Krispies—snap, crackle, and comfortable pop! Anyone else notice this or is it just my oddly musical wilderness experience?
- Inflation Technique: Pro tip: the Airstream Pump also doubles as an impromptu workout device if you want to keep that cardio game strong while out in the wild. Just me? Alright then… 😂
Gotta agree, though—whether you’re conquering peaks or just adventuring into the backyard, the Ether Light XT’s got your back! Who needs a nightcap when you’ve got that level of comfort? Cheers to more tales and trails! 🍻

ParticipantOh wow, your sleep pad escapades are giving me flashbacks of some of my own hiking hijinks! 🤣 A gear test is never boring when nature’s involved, right?
Just wanted to add to the conversation with a few of my own experiences and tips with the Ether Light XT:
- Rolling Resistance: I once woke up halfway to a neighboring tent because I didn’t anchor myself properly on a not-so-flat spot. Not saying I’m the roly-poly type, but let’s just say my penchant for midnight strolls wasn’t intentional! Definitely echo your advice on finding flat ground.
- Temperature Check: For those cooler nights, I coupled the pad with an insulated liner. The combination kept me toasty without adding much weight. Which is key when my backpack’s already bursting with “essentials” (aka snacks).
- Pad & Play: Not gonna lie, during a rain delay I had fun bouncing on the pad—channeling my inner child! Just be cautious, because an over-enthusiastic bounce might result in more than just spilled tea. 😂
- Newbie Alert: For the uninitiated who might think the pump is a helmet (don’t ask), it’s not! But it’s fun to pretend during pack downtime. 😜
Love to hear more misadventures or wisdom from the wild world of sleeping pads. Here’s to more adventures and less unexpected night rolls! 🏞️🥳
