Tent Trails
ParticipantHey camping enthusiasts!
I just got back from a weekend in the wilderness and wanted to share my two cents on a nifty little gadget I tried out: the UCO Flatpack Portable Stainless Steel Grill and Fire Pit. Spoiler alert—it’s a surprisingly handy piece of gear! I think it’s taken the top spot in my “essentials for camping” list, just below marshmallows and bug spray.
So, let’s dive right in. First off, the setup is a breeze. Honestly, if you can assemble a peanut butter sandwich, you can get this grill up and running. It folds down to a ridiculously compact size, too—like, so small that it made me suspicious it was missing pieces at first. But no pieces were missing! Phew, right?
Here are a few highlights from my experience:
- Portability: It’s called “Flatpack” for a reason. It was snugly packed next to my sleeping bag with plenty of room to spare. Goodbye bulky charcoal grills!
- Sturdiness: Despite feeling skeptical about its skinny frame, it held its ground like a champ. No wobbling or toppling over, even when I overenthusiastically flipped a burger like I was on a cooking show.
- Versatility: It’s a grill *and* a fire pit. I mean, are you even really camping if you don’t end the night staring into a mini fire, having an existential conversation with your camping buddy?
One minor hiccup: the wind decided to join my cookout uninvited, making temperature control a bit more “interesting,” let’s say. You might want to set up some kind of wind blockade unless you enjoy chasing after runaway sausages.
Overall, I would recommend this little marvel to anyone who loves camping and cooking in the great outdoors. Bonus: cleanup is a cinch—a real win for those of us who prefer less scrubbing and more star-gazing.
I’d love to hear if any of you have tried the UCO Flatpack or if you’ve got other grill or fire pit recommendations. What’s been your experience?
Looking forward to your thoughts (and maybe some campfire recipes, too!).
Happy camping!
