The Great RV Screen Room Debate: To Floor or Not to Floor?

Alright, fellow campers, let’s settle this once and for all: Are you team “floor” or team “no floor” when it comes to RV screen rooms?

Personally, I’m torn. On one hand, a floor keeps out bugs, dirt, and that random patch of grass that somehow always turns into a mud pit. On the other hand, no floor means I don’t have to sweep it out every five minutes when someone (me) drags in leaves, sand, or snacks that mysteriously fall out of my hands.

    Pros of having a floor:
✔ No bugs crawling up your legs
✔ No soggy ground underfoot after rain
✔ Feels a bit more like an extra room instead of just a bug net

    Cons of having a floor:
✘ Traps water if it rains too much
    ✘ More to clean
✘ Harder to store and dry out if it gets wet

What do you all think? Is a floor a must-have, or do you prefer the more open setup? Let’s hear your hot takes!

Before I got my RV screen room, I thought, Who really needs one? It felt like an extra thing to set up, pack, and deal with. Then came The Trip of Regret.

Picture this: A perfect lakeside campsite, golden hour lighting, and me—armed with a full plate of grilled goodness, ready to enjoy dinner under the stars. Except I wasn’t alone. Every mosquito within a five-mile radius had apparently received an invite to my feast… and I was the main course.

I tried everything—bug spray, citronella candles, wildly swatting at the air like I was battling invisible ninjas. Nothing worked. I ended up retreating inside the RV like a defeated soldier, eating my now-cold dinner while staring out the window at my abandoned picnic table.

Lesson learned: RV screen rooms are not optional. If you like eating, relaxing, or just existing outdoors without donating blood, get one.

Things I Didn’t Expect About Owning an RV Screen Room

When I bought my RV screen room, I figured I’d use it for eating outside and avoiding bugs. I was right… but I also discovered a whole list of unexpected uses I never saw coming.

    1. Rain Delay Zone: Ever been trapped inside your RV waiting for a storm to pass? With a good screen room and weather flaps, I just sip my coffee and listen to the rain from my cozy little porch setup.
    2. Laundry Room: Nothing says “RV life” like stringing up some damp towels and swimsuits in your screen room to dry. Bonus: they won’t blow away in the wind like that one time I had to chase my t-shirt across the campground.
    3. Nap Headquarters: Shade + fresh air + a comfy camp chair = the best afternoon nap of your life.
    4. Bird-Watching Blind: Turns out, when you’re inside the screen room, birds don’t notice you as much. I’ve unintentionally turned mine into a mini wildlife observation post.
    5. Emergency Storage: When it suddenly starts raining and you realize you left everything outside, a screen room is the perfect quick-stash shelter for gear, shoes, and campfire wood.

Any other unexpected ways people are using their screen rooms? Let’s hear ‘em!

Screen Room Shopping: The Feature I Didn’t Know I Needed

You ever buy something thinking, This is nice, but I probably won’t use it much—only to realize later it’s your favorite feature? That happened to me with privacy panels on my RV screen room.

At first, I thought, Who cares? It’s just mesh walls. But then…

    • My neighbor set up two feet away from me.
    • The campsite bathroom line was right in front of my RV spot.
    • I realized people could see me in my PJ shorts and mismatched socks at 7 a.m.

Let me tell you—zipping those panels down felt like winning the campground lottery. No more awkward eye contact while sipping my coffee. No more feeling like I was part of a live RV exhibit. Just pure, undisturbed, semi-private relaxation.

So, if you’re picking a screen room, trust me on this: privacy panels are worth it. Anyone else discover a feature they didn’t know they needed?
