    The “Neighbor Envy” Hitch

You ever have that one neighbor at the campsite who has a setup so dialed in, you start questioning your own choices? That was me last summer. I roll in with my trusty (but old-school) weight distribution hitch, and my camping neighbor pulls up with this fancy hitch that had built-in sway control, self-adjusting bars, and what looked like a small jet engine attached (okay, maybe not, but it looked high-tech).

After a few beers, I asked him about it, and he let me try hooking up my trailer to it. HOLY SMOOTH TOWING, BATMAN. That thing handled sway like a dream, and I swear my truck even rode better. Long story short? I upgraded mine a week later. Best decision I ever made. Now I’m the guy at the campsite making other people jealous. Full circle. 😂

What’s the best hitch upgrade you’ve ever made? Or are you still rocking an older one that does the job just fine?

Weight distribution hitches don’t get nearly enough love. People talk about their tow vehicles, fancy trailer mods, even their backup cameras—but the real MVP? That little chunk of steel keeping everything balanced and stable. I didn’t appreciate mine fully until I had to tow without it one time. I swear my trailer turned into a rebellious teenager, swaying all over the road, ignoring my commands, and generally trying to ruin my day.

Put the hitch back on? Boom. Instantly calm and obedient. It’s like it puts the trailer in “chill mode.” So here’s to the humble weight distribution hitch—quietly making road trips safer, smoother, and way less stressful. Who else gives their hitch a little pat for a job well done after a long tow? Or am I just weird? 😆

    The “Too Much Grease” Fiasco

So, I heard that greasing the hitch components can cut down on noise. Logical, right? Well, I must have overdone it, because let me tell you—there is such a thing as too much grease. Pulled out of my driveway, hit the first stop sign, and my hitch made a noise that can only be described as “a walrus stepping on a squeaky toy.” It was LOUD. My wife just looked at me like, “Really?”

Had to pull over, wipe everything down, and reapply a reasonable amount. Moral of the story: a little grease goes a long way. Anyone else ever mess up something simple and feel like an absolute amateur for a solid 30 minutes? 😅
